RoomForTea is a peer-to-peer housing platform which offers secure and flexible accommodation for mid-term stays in London (2-3 months). Operating as a shared living network we enable anyone to turn a property into a co-living space. Guests can book a room in a 3-10 bedroom home, on a flexible basis. All our homes are verified and hosted with 75% of our community being female.
Why Join the Accelerator
We participated in other accelerators, but We in Social Tech was the best suited to RoomForTea in terms of its focus on tech, female founders and impact. The best thing about the programme was being able to work alongside other founders who experience similar challenges, collaborate and mutually open our networks.
Successes of the Business so far
In 2019 RoomForTea have achieved:
- Helping over 500 young people find a place to stay from 2018
- Over 70% of our community being female.
- 50% of our hosts are single mums.
During the We in Social Tech accelerator we introduced key features for scale such as star ratings. Our business grew with user registrations doubling, over 6,000 nights were booked out and sales tripled since December. In July we launched our gift vouchers – cashless rent vouchers which can be redeemed for any room booking on www.roomfortea.com We’re trying to build partnerships with employers who can purchase them for their staff, or gift to friends/family.
Benefits of the accelerator:
Overall a great programme, delivered by an amazing team (particularly Lana from NWES), it was incredible being offered free office space in London, and I got a lot out of networking with other founders/companies.
Once a week there are talks on various aspects of business, from pitching to user experience which filled gaps in our knowledge and helped us realise what we didn’t know.
Excellent! Our mentors were challenging, experienced, supportive and I found that having them stretched me. I’m not a people pleaser but I really wanted to explore their suggestions and we strengthened as a result.
